Description

Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un”

That was what the young girl dressed in a police uniform kept repeating. Signs showed she had fainted and was revived with water, given how she lay on the ground, eyes closed, her face drenched. When she felt herself being lifted, she opened her eyes to see who was touching her. It was Ammi, her father's younger sister.

She looked into Ammi’s swollen face, puffy from tears. Even her eyes were barely visible from all the crying.

“Zarah, crying won’t help now. Come and say farewell to them so we can take them to their final resting place,” Ammi said with a cracked voice.

She opened her mouth to speak, but her sobs overpowered her words. She immediately burst into deep, heart-wrenching cries.

Ammi held her hand and helped her up, leading her toward the eight bodies laid in coffins. Upon reaching them, Zarah pulled her hand away and stepped back, trying to hold in another wave of tears.

With trembling hands, she began unveiling the faces of the corpses, starting from the first one.

“My father, my mother, my three grandparents, my two younger brothers, and my baby sister. Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un,” she said, before breaking into fresh, soul-touching cries. Then she paused, covered their faces again carefully, and raised her hands to pray.

Zarah’s Prayer

> “Oh Lord, Oh Lord, Oh Lord. Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyum, Ya Allah, I thank You in every situation I find myself in.

Oh Allah, You are my witness that I only joined the police to help fix my country.

Oh Allah, I follow Your laws and only disobey unknowingly.

I know You love these servants more than I do, which is why You took them back from us. I accept this trial with both hands and I thank You.

Oh Allah, Your servants are about to come to You—please forgive them their sins, both known and unknown.

Oh Allah, have mercy on them.

Oh Allah, protect them from the torment of the grave and accept their martyrdom.

Oh Allah, grant them a place in Your Paradise.

Oh my Lord, You do not commit injustice and You do not support the unjust. I report anyone who had a hand in the death of these believers to You.”

Even the men in the yard wept and admired Zarah’s courage.

Without wasting time, the funeral prayer was performed, and they were taken to their final resting places.

Before the Tragedy

There was a close friendship and trust between Malam Usmanu and Malam Adamu, which over time grew into brotherhood. This bond had existed since their parents, and their children also grew up very close due to their neighboring homes.

They hailed from Deba town in Gombe State, living with their families and sustaining themselves through farming.

Malam Usmanu was married to FaÉ—imatu and had one son: Abduljalal.

Malam Adamu had two children, Sulaiman and Rumaisa, with his wife Aishatu.

Their children grew up loved and cared for, always together from childhood into adulthood.

Sulaiman, the eldest, lived in Gombe with his wife Safiyat and two children, Muhammad Jawwad and Nusaiba. He was a mineral trader.

Abduljalal lived in Bauchi with his wife Zainab (Mami) and their three kids: Abubakar Sadiq, Rahma, and Fatimah Zarah. He worked at the Federal Medical Centre, Bauchi.

Rumaisa (Ammi) lived in Cairo with her businessman husband and two sons: Muhammad Adil and Muhammad Shahid.

Despite living apart, they often visited their parents in Deba, which helped the children remain close—except Muhammad Jawwad, who went to study in England after primary school.

Zarah's Dream to Become a Police Officer

Zarah had long dreamed of becoming a police officer due to the injustices she witnessed where the poor were oppressed and the police did nothing. She vowed to become a force for justice.

Her parents reluctantly agreed, especially after her condition worsened to the point of hospitalization. They finally gave in, setting strict conditions to protect the family’s dignity.

An Unforgettable Encounter

Bauchi Town — 12:30 PM

There was traffic as usual on a Friday near the mosques. Zarah’s driver was caught in it, having picked her from school.

Zarah’s attention was drawn to an old female beggar sitting under the sun with a bowl. She was moved with pity as no one seemed to be helping the woman. She checked her school bag and found only ₦200.

> “Baba Sule, do you have some money with you?” she asked the driver.

> “Yes, maybe ₦5000 or more.”

He gave her some, and she got out to approach the woman.

> “Grandma, why are you sitting in the sun? Move to the shade.”

> “My daughter, if you sit far from people, they won’t come to help. One must go to them.”

> “Don’t you have anyone helping you?”

> “If I did, you wouldn’t see me here alone.”

> “My name is Fatimah Zarah. Please accept this—it’s not much,” she said, handing her the money.

> “May Allah bless you, Batula. May He guide and protect you. May I someday help you as you’ve helped me.”

Zarah smiled, happy to receive such prayers from an elder.

> “Let me go—my driver is waiting. I’ll stop by sometimes to greet you.”

> “Thank you, dear. May Allah bless your life,” the beggar said aloud. But in her heart, she thought: You won’t see me again. I came today to help the one who helps others—and you were lucky to be the one.

Mysterious Dreams

From that day, Zarah dreamed of the old beggar every night. Each time, the beggar would say:

> “You will face many challenges in life. Be patient and strong. Entrust your affairs to Allah. Always be truthful. Do not oppress others or allow oppression. Stand firm in fighting injustice.”

At first, it didn’t bother Zarah. But after weeks of searching and finding no trace of the woman—despite asking locals and even Baba Sule—she began to feel afraid. No one had seen her again.

Then came one final dream, on a Sunday night:

> “I am not human—I’m a Jinn! My time has come to return to my realm. Batula, I promise not to appear to you again in dreams or reality. But I will help you when the time comes. Don’t forget my advice—it will guide you.”

From then on, the dreams stopped, confirming to Zarah that she had indeed received help from a jinn.

Once she joined the police force, Zarah worked with great dedication, fighting for the rights of the oppressed. Her sincerity earned her recognition and steady promotions—she currently holds the rank of ASP (Assistant Superintendent of Police).

M.J JEWELS and the Legendary Diamond

Alhaji Sulaiman, Zarah’s uncle, was extremely wealthy. His most prominent company was M.J JEWELS, named after his first son, Muhammad Jawwad.

The company specialized in crafting luxury items—earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, watches—using precious materials like gold, silver, and diamonds.

Last year, he acquired a rare diamond from foreigners worth $30 million USD, secured in a high-tech safe that could only be opened with a special flash-drive-like key. Because of frequent robbery attempts, the diamond was moved from his home to the company’s secure vault.

Still, threats persisted. So, Alhaji Sulaiman and his brother Abduljalal decided to move it to his Bauchi residence and entrusted its protection to Zarah.

Even their own parents weren’t told about the diamond’s current location.

The Alpha Threat

Alpha was a notorious criminal feared across Nigeria and neighboring countries. Famous for kidnappings, robberies, and killings, no one knew what he looked like or where he lived.

He had many loyal workers—some didn’t even know him personally. At every crime scene, they left a calling card: the word ALPHA and a coconut tree symbol 🌴.

Despite countless efforts, police had never captured even one of his men due to his protection by high-ranking officials.

After learning about the diamond through a secret mole inside M.J JEWELS, Alpha swore to steal it. However, the safe’s security prevented him from succeeding—for now. But he was planning, and he intended not only to steal the diamond but to destroy M.J JEWELS altogether.
