Description

The Students’ Anger

At Nkesti Government Secondary School, a large group of boys and girls gathered restlessly at the school gate. Their faces were clouded with anger, sadness, and tension. As soon as they came out, noise erupted. Arguments broke out between the boys and girls, each blaming the governor of Benue State for shutting down schools.

One boy shouted in frustration:

“By God, the governor of Benue is useless! Every day, instead of giving us work or improving education, he closes schools. Even at the peak of learning, he interrupts us. Look at foreign students studying freely while we are stopped from learning. He doesn’t deserve to govern!”

Suddenly, another student slapped him hard for insulting the governor. More chaos broke out—insults, shouting, and even tribal words of abuse. Another boy warned sternly:

“Don’t ever insult our governor again, or I’ll destroy your entire family. Show respect!”

But others disagreed:

“He deserves to be insulted! He ruins our future. If he keeps us idle, we will organize a protest all the way to Makurdi. We cannot accept this injustice.”

The debate grew heated, with students vowing to march in protest. Some fell silent, realizing the matter was greater than them.

 A Secret Meeting

Meanwhile, a young girl quietly walked toward an office inside the school compound. She looked around carefully, making sure no one was watching, then slipped inside and locked the door behind her.

There was a young man inside who fixed his gaze on her. She nervously loosened her uniform, one button after another. His heartbeat quickened, filled with longing for her. She approached him slowly, their closeness filled with unspoken desire.

They embraced, shared kisses, and held each other tightly. What followed was a private and passionate moment between them—two people who had missed one another and now expressed it in intimacy. Their actions spoke of longing, love, and secrecy, though it was hidden away from the world outside.

Confessions of Love and Forbidden Truths

Afterwards, they lay together, sharing whispers. The man, overwhelmed with emotion, said:

“Rauda, I love you deeply. I can’t bear life without you. Why do you make me suffer by denying me your warmth? You are the only one I desire.”

Rauda’s eyes filled with tears as she answered:

“Uncle, don’t speak like that—you’ll make my heart tremble. I love you just as you love me, maybe even more. But you know there can never be marriage between a father’s brother and his daughter. It is forbidden.”

He held her tightly, refusing to let go.

“Don’t cry, Rauda. Who told you there can’t be marriage? All I know is that I love you. From the beginning, it has always been you. I’ve never wanted anyone else. Please, don’t reject me.”

Rauda looked at him silently, studying his handsome face, his patience, and his strength. She admitted in a soft voice:

“You are everything to me. You were the first man in my life, and I still feel your presence in every part of me. I cannot deny that my heart beats only for you.”

He whispered her name tenderly, vowing that she was the only one he truly loved. Despite knowing the bond between them was forbidden, their hearts and emotions were bound by a secret passion—a Sirri ne, a secret they kept hidden from the world.
