Sabiyya’s Dread and the Return of Her Brother

Sabiyya woke up anxious, dreading the return of her elder brother, Khubaib. She knew his presence meant the end of her peace at home, as he was known for his sternness and strict discipline. She preferred he stayed back in the UK. Lost in thought, she lay under her blanket, her stunning features hidden—fair, tall, well-shaped like a figure 8, with captivating eyes, lashes, a sharp nose, and pink lips.

“Mamii” called for her, pulling her out of her thoughts. She reluctantly left her bed and answered her mother. Her mother complimented her calmness, but Sabiyya pouted, worried about Khubaib’s return. Her mother reminded her that no one could interfere between them and that he was already on the way. Sabiyya grumbled about being forced to clean his room. Her mother, tired of her attitude, told her to leave it for Samira instead.

She left the parlour, heading to her section of the house. On the way, she ran into Anna, an older woman busy preparing the house. Anna scolded Sabiyya for lounging around when everyone was working hard for Khubaib’s return. Sabiyya dismissed her, calling Khubaib arrogant and promising he’d be chased out soon enough. Anna wasn’t impressed and asked her to leave.

Tension at Home and Khubaib’s Grand Return

Sabiyya then visited another part of the house, where Ammi was working in the kitchen. She complained again about Khubaib, calling him a troublemaker. Ammi scolded her, suggesting she attend his arrival ceremony. But Sabiyya refused, highlighting the family’s double standards. She later took a bath, dressed beautifully in a black abaya, and relaxed in the parlour.

At around 4:30 p.m., a convoy of cars pulled into the compound. From a luxurious jeep stepped out Khubaib—tall, handsome, and elegant. He looked nothing like a typical Nigerian. After greeting others, he headed straight to Ammi’s part of the house, ignoring Sabiyya, though she had seen him from a distance. Ammi was thrilled to see him.

Later, Ammi asked Sabiyya to serve him food while she went upstairs. Annoyed but obedient, she did. As she turned to grumble at him, she accidentally bumped into him. Startled, he twisted her ear in anger and pushed her out, calling her disrespectful. She ran to Anna in tears, accusing Khubaib of hitting her unfairly.

Anna was shocked but not entirely surprised. She blamed both of them and suggested Sabiyya rest in her room. Sabiyya knew exactly how to trigger Anna and hid in her bedroom, giggling mischievously.

Backstory: Who Are Sabiyya and Khubaib?

Alhaji Ahmad and Alhaji Mus’ab were successful businessmen raised by their mother, Fatima (Anna), after losing their father early in life. Despite hardships and the loss of their father’s property to relatives, they worked hard and found success.

Ahmad married a beautiful woman named Hafsa (Mamii), and they had five children, with Khubaib as the eldest. He studied and became a doctor in the UK, owning hospitals and traveling often. Mus’ab later married Aisha (Ammi), and after five years of trying, they had a daughter, Sabiyya, named after their mother Fatima. Though spoiled, she was also given proper upbringing. Sabiyya is now 19 and finished secondary school, ready for higher education. She grew up pampered and stubborn, always clashing with her brother Khubaib due to her spoiled nature.

Unexpected Encounter and a Spark of Interest

One evening, Sabiyya and her friend Maryam went shopping. Afterward, Maryam left with the driver while Sabiyya decided to take a tricycle home. Unfortunately, she found herself stranded alone as the weather grew stormy.

Suddenly, a strong wind blew her scarf away, which landed on the face of a man heading to his car. Seeing her crying and frightened, he returned her scarf and offered to drop her home. She initially declined, but he insisted kindly. Eventually, she agreed and entered his car.

As they drove, he asked for directions and tried making small talk, to which she only responded with brief answers. When they arrived at her house, she thanked him, only to find him gazing at her in admiration. Embarrassed, she shyly covered her face, blushing.
