Description

The Tense Ride and Arrival at Abba’s House

Aliyu didn’t say another word to her, only kept speeding as if he would take off into the air. Her heart pounded in fear, and she didn’t even know what to say to him. She endured the tension until finally, with a trembling voice, she managed, “Where are you taking me, Aliyu? Please, for God’s sake.”

He hit the brakes, turning sharply toward her with a glare. “What did you just say?” he barked. She lowered her head, too afraid to reply. His eyes narrowed, and he said coldly, “I’m taking you to sell you.”

She stayed silent, and he scoffed, starting the car again. Relief washed over her only when she recognized their neighborhood. As soon as he parked, she opened the door to get out quickly, but he grabbed her roughly, his glare sharp. “You heard what I said—and I don’t want to see these tears on your face again.” She pulled her hand free, hurried out of the car, shot him a glare, and hissed, “I didn’t hear you.”

She ran into the house, but he followed her. At the gate, she stumbled, almost falling, but he caught her. Frightened, she pleaded, “Please forgive me, I wasn’t talking to you.” He said nothing, just dragged her along like an animal until they reached Abba’s living room.

Abba was seated with the remote in hand, changing channels. Only Aliyu greeted him; Inteesar couldn’t even manage that. Aliyu sat beside her and told Abba, “Here she is, I brought her.” Abba ignored him at first, then looked at Inteesar, smiling faintly, and asked how her family was. She lowered her head and replied softly, “They’re fine, Abba.”

Aliyu then added quietly, “Abba, here she is.” Abba turned to her seriously and said, “I’ll just ask you one question, Fateema, but I want the truth—don’t lie to me. Did you agree for Aliyu to take another wife?”

Her whole body froze. She couldn’t lift her head. Tears threatened her eyes. Aliyu secretly took her hand in his, signaling for her to agree. Abba pressed again, “Speak, Fateema, or has he wronged you?” Trembling, she replied, “Yes, Abba, with my consent.”

Abba shook his head. “You’re lying,” he said. She insisted it was true. Finally, Abba said, “Alright. I won’t stop him from marrying again, Aliyu. But one thing—before your marriage, my daughter must start her studies and settle down. Otherwise, I’ll tear everything apart. Now leave.”

Aliyu stood without protest, thanked Abba, shot Inteesar a sharp look, and left.

Abuse, Conflict, and the Arrival of Safeenah

After leaving Abba’s house, Aliyu grew violent. Inside the home, he dragged Inteesar, slapped her, and shoved her into his room. Her pleas for him to stop were ignored. He threatened her repeatedly, holding her tightly, and at one point, he called another woman—Safeenah—while keeping Inteesar in his arms.

Speaking softly, he said to Safeenah, “Baby, I miss you. I need you.” Safeenah laughed and teased him about his wife, saying he should go to her instead. Aliyu replied, “What does she have to give me except trouble? I want you.” They spoke shamelessly about their first night together while Inteesar quietly tried to slip away, only for him to grab her again.

Later, when Safeenah arrived at the house, Inteesar insulted her, calling her shameless. Aliyu slapped Inteesar hard, warning her never to speak to Safeenah that way again. Blood appeared on Inteesar’s lips from the blows, and she cried bitterly while Safeenah looked on with mocking amusement.

Safeenah eventually told Aliyu she preferred his room over another, which made Inteesar get up, put on her hijab and shoes, and try to leave. Aliyu stopped her, taunting her about where she planned to go. She said she was going to her father’s house. He mockingly allowed her to “try,” but when she called out for her father, Safeenah complained about the noise, asking Aliyu to focus on her.

Inteesar insulted Safeenah again, calling her ignorant, and Safeenah threatened to physically harm her. Inteesar responded with two hard slaps.

Escalation and Ongoing Tension

The moment Inteesar slapped Safeenah, the tension in the room spiked. Aliyu’s temper was already volatile, and Safeenah—mocking and unafraid—was ready to provoke her further. The room felt charged with hostility, betrayal, and unresolved rage.

Aliyu’s pattern of abuse—physical, verbal, and emotional—had already worn Inteesar down, leaving her cornered in her own home. Now, with Safeenah boldly claiming dominance over her space and openly challenging her, Inteesar’s fight-back was both an act of desperation and a spark that threatened to ignite another violent episode.

The situation was far from over, and the lines between marriage, humiliation, and control were becoming dangerously blurred.
