The Secret Message and the Warning

Fadeela, standing behind Aysha, asked worriedly, “Gwaggo! Are you the one who’s been sick? And where’s Mama — did she see you?”

She threw all her questions at once.

Gwaggo Bintu could barely breathe, struggling to smile faintly at Fadeela. Aysha, on the other hand, was silent — deep inside, she felt an intense anger, wishing she could just end Gwaggo Bintu’s life and free everyone from her.

Suddenly, Aysha’s phone buzzed loudly with a message notification. She quickly pulled the phone from her handbag and opened it.

> “Don’t you dare do anything that’ll make it look like your grandmother wronged you. That would ruin our mission. Be careful — act normal around her for your sister’s sake. Don’t ruin my plan.”

The number was hidden. Aysha read it twice in disbelief.

“Who could this be?” she whispered in confusion.

Just then, Gwaggo Bintu’s weak voice reached her ears.

“Aysha… is it really you? Are you truly back to us?” she said before bursting into tears.

Aysha rushed forward and embraced her. While hiding from Fadeela’s eyes, she whispered quickly into Gwaggo Bintu’s ear:

> “Gwaggo, please don’t show any sign that you know I’m in danger. I swear, if you do, they’ll kill you. Just act happy that I returned from school. May Allah turn the evil they planned against me into blessings. I have completed my studies.”

Fadeela and the others, unaware of what was happening, tried to comfort both of them. Fadeela gently pulled Aysha away from Gwaggo Bintu, trying to calm her down.

Gwaggo Bintu, however, was deeply shaken. Aysha’s words hit her like a storm. ("I said it — nothing cures guilt like regret, right, Gwaggo Bintu?” 😂)

Aysha later sat close to her grandmother. Bishirah, filled with joy, held her hand and said, “Aysha, you’ve really changed! Education suits you — you look so different!”

Aysha laughed. “Wallahi, Bishirah, you’ve changed too! You’ve become a beautiful young lady — are you getting married soon?”

Bishirah laughed shyly. “Hhh, in two months.”

“Eyy, so we’ll soon attend a wedding! May Allah bless it,” Aysha said.

“Ameen,” Fadeela replied with a smile.

They spent a long time in the hospital, but Gwaggo Bintu couldn’t relax. Regret filled her heart — she had betrayed her own blood. The very woman who made her do it had now caused her great pain through her daughter. Since she was admitted, not a single one of Hajiya Babba’s family members had come to visit her.

Now, Gwaggo Bintu sat wiping away tears only Aysha noticed. Aysha pulled Bishirah aside and asked softly, “Bishirah, since I left this house, what has really been happening?”

Bishirah sighed. “Aysha, a lot. Alhaji took another wife,” she began, explaining everything — from Alhaji’s new marriage, to Gwaggo Bintu’s trip to Lagos, and how she ended up in the hospital.

Aysha could only whisper, “May Allah make it easy.”

Then she, too, opened up, telling Bishirah everything about what had happened to her. Bishirah wept uncontrollably, even sniffling as Aysha revealed that Alhaji’s new wife was her biological mother.

“Bishirah, do you know why I told you my secret?”

“No, Aysha, tell me,” she replied.

“Because I need your help — and please, for Allah’s sake, keep this secret. I will take revenge on Hajiya Babba and her group, but I can’t do that until I gather her secrets first.”

“What kind of help do you need from me, Aysha?”

“Come closer,” Aysha whispered.

Aysha whispered something to Bishirah that even the narrator didn’t hear 🤷🏽‍♀️. They then continued discussing life matters and their plans before Bishirah’s wedding.

When they saw Fadeela approaching, they stood up smiling.

Aysha said, “Sorry, sister Fadeela, we left you alone for too long — you know it’s been ages since we met.”

Fadeela didn’t say a word; she simply turned and walked away, with the others following her.

Later, they all left the hospital. Gwaggo Bintu was expected to be discharged by nightfall.

The Gunfire and Khaleel’s Injury

A sudden loud noise jolted everyone — gunshots!

Barau Modibbo’s eldest son peeked outside and froze at the sight of armed security officers. Terrified, he tried to flee but was immediately shot in the leg by Joseph.

Khaleel, who was hiding nearby, rushed out to assist — only to feel a bullet graze his left arm. He clutched his bleeding hand and looked toward where the shot came from — it was Barau Modibbo himself, who then tried to fire again at Khaleel, hitting his side, though the bullet didn’t penetrate because of his bulletproof vest.

Seeing that his attack failed, Barau Modibbo dashed into another room.

Khaleel and his men followed, despite his pain and the blood soaking his yellow shirt. They searched the entire house but couldn’t find him — Barau had escaped through a secret back door built for emergencies like this.

Khaleel soon discovered the open door and clenched his jaw.

“Taheer, I think he escaped through here…” he muttered weakly, dizzy from blood loss.

The team confirmed his suspicion when they saw tire marks outside — he had fled.

They rushed back to Khaleel, who was barely conscious. Adams and Youseef quickly tore a bedsheet to tie around his arm and stop the bleeding.

Without wasting time, they left the house with Barau’s dead men and the captured ones.

Dr. Abraham was called, and he told them to meet him at the General Hospital.

As Khaleel’s car pulled into the hospital compound, Ramadan was about to drive out and recognized it. “Hey, that’s Khaleel’s car!” he said, hitting the brakes.

Aysha’s heart sank. She remembered how he had left earlier. They all rushed toward the car. Khaleel could barely lift his head, his vision blurry from pain.

Ramadan grabbed him, panicking. “Khaleel! Are you okay?”

Khaleel gritted his teeth and whispered, “Take me inside through the back. Don’t alarm them… it’s just a gunshot wound.”

They sneaked him inside while Aysha and Fadeela hurried to the hospital ward, their hearts pounding.

Dr. Abraham arrived shortly with Adams and began treating Khaleel. Despite the intense pain, Khaleel barely flinched — his courage unmatched. Dr. Abraham successfully removed the bullet and gave him a sedative.

Outside, Aysha couldn’t stop pacing and crying. Baffa arrived with Ramadan, alarmed by the news. Adams explained briefly, and Dr. Abraham soon came out, assuring them that Khaleel was stable and resting.

Hours later, Khaleel woke up. The house was quiet, as the family had gone home after evening prayers. Aysha and Fadeela had been sent home earlier by Baffa.

At home, everyone was worried. The living room was filled with silence — everyone except Hajiya Babba, who stayed in her room.

When Khaleel later returned home, the family crowded around him. He smiled weakly. “Relax, everyone. I’m fine.”

Anty Mamie brought him tea. “Thank you, my dear Mamie,” he said, smiling.

As he looked around the room, his eyes landed on Hajiya Babba — unusually quiet, hiding behind Umme Amarya. “Hmm,” he thought, “my troublemaker seems restless today.”

Aysha, unaware he was staring, glanced up and met his eyes — both quickly looked away.

Later that night, Hajiya Babba helped him prepare his bath, acting overly nice — something that surprised him. “Strange,” he thought, “she’s never done this before. Maybe it’s about Barau Modibbo’s capture.”

Two days later, Khaleel recovered fully, surrounded by care from his mother, Anty Mamie, and others — except Aysha, who hadn’t visited once.

Meanwhile, Gwaggo Bintu was discharged, and Mama revealed her true relationship with her to Baffa — shocking him.

He immediately de

cided, “She shouldn’t serve anyone again. Set her free.”

Mama was overjoyed — exactly what she had hoped for.
