Description

Life’s Destiny and Its Unavoidable Trials

Life’s destiny is like a picture drawn on the paper of every human’s life. No matter how much you wish to erase it or avoid it, you might not have the weapons or the shield to protect yourself from its arrival—whether it is short-lived or lasts for years. At times we cry tears, but the tears of the heart are the most painful and bitter kind, the ones that damage our lives and success, whether openly or secretly, and which we cannot forget. Sometimes, they leave scars that serve as constant reminders long after the events have passed.

From birth, our parents are our shield, sacrificing everything to wrap our lives in their hopes and care. They raise us with love and certainty until we grow up, and this love never fades from our hearts. It is different from any other love that may follow it. Even when they scold us and make us cry, their love remains unchanged in our hearts because they are unique—like a thousand in one—whether we are surrounded by success or failure.

As we grow older, old age catches up with them, and youth wraps around us. At that point, you begin to distinguish between the white and the black in your present and your future, and the book of your destiny begins to open with the lines of your trials. Struggles become your companions in life—not only in the pursuit of worldly success but also in preparing for the Hereafter, where you decide your eternal fate. Maturity begins with the balance of your good deeds and sins, recorded openly before your Creator. Our parents complete the struggle of raising us in our youth, then continue to support us in our adulthood without weariness because they are part of us in a way that no one else can be.

The Journey and the Unexpected Encounter

In the account of self-awareness and discovering who you are, it’s rare not to see the charm of youthful love making its way into your destiny. It’s not just a love to be admired or treated as something separate from you, but one that could either start, end, endure, or continue to exist. It becomes the mirror through which you see yourself and those who persist in following your story.

Three young women, dressed in national service uniforms, stood by the roadside, each holding her travel bag, waiting for transportation. They were trying to stop a tricycle (napep), but most already had passengers and couldn’t take all three at once. Among them, the one in the middle—less cheerful than the others—looked up at the cloudy sky, silently hoping the rain wouldn’t fall on her. She was more concerned than the others because their journey was long; they were heading to Kaduna State.

As the wind picked up, she looked at her companions, her eyes filling with tears. Before she could speak, a sleek car pulled over. All three stared at it, and when a young man stepped out, two of them smiled in surprise. The middle girl, however, kept her serious face and looked away. But the young man’s attention was fixed on her. He approached and said,

“So, after all my rushing, you almost made me chase you?”

She frowned and stepped back slightly. He scratched his head with a smile, then looked at the other two and teased,

“Come on, friends, I thought we were on the same side here. Why are you all acting like you’re avoiding me?”

The two laughed, and the one on his right replied,

“No way, we’d never avoid you! Even if we tried, we’d still show up at RK’s hiding place. But, honestly, our friend here is the reason we’re out this early—she barely slept last night because she was excited to go home to see Ammie.”

“Or maybe she’s just happy to escape Jos and leave her stubbornness behind?” he joked, glancing at the middle girl.

Before she could respond, the girl on her left quickly defended,

“No, RK, you know that’s not true at all.”

“Hmmm, Aneesa, I see you always defend her no matter what. Fine, all of you get in the car before the rain soaks my queen.”

The middle girl reluctantly started pulling her suitcase away, but RK grabbed it. She froze without turning back. Before he could speak, Aneesa stepped in, shaking her head and taking the bag from him. RK let go without argument.

When the middle girl tried to take the bag back, she turned sharply—expecting RK—but saw Aneesa instead. She sighed in frustration, biting her lip, and Aneesa smiled knowingly, realizing her friend’s patience had run out.

“Please, forgive me,” Aneesa said quickly, without waiting for a reply. “Listen, the weather here can change anytime—you know the harm it can cause you. He only offered to take us to the station. From today, you’ll part ways anyway. Don’t let it end badly. RK doesn’t deserve that from you. Even if you’ll never accept him, don’t treat him badly today. Leave things peacefully. And remember, he doesn’t have your number anymore, and he doesn’t even know your exact address here.”

The middle girl’s teary eyes blinked slowly, lips parting to speak—then the rain poured suddenly, startling her. She didn’t even realize Aneesa had pulled her into the car until she was inside. Only when she noticed the sound of rain on the roof did she raise her head. Looking toward RK, she saw his intense gaze fixed on her, and she quickly turned to face her friends.
